Lao film ‘Pha Hom’ nominated for RWI Asia Pacific Awards
The Lao film “Pha Hom” (The Blanket) directed by Mitpasa Sittihakpanya has been nominated for the RWI Asia Pacific Awards at the Minikino Film Week 8 to be held in Indonesia next month.
The Minikino Film Week will be part of the Bali International Short Film Festival that will be held during September 2-10.
“Pha Hom” is centred around a seven-year-old boy from a rural Lao village who becomes responsible for his younger siblings and mother after his father goes off to the city in search of work.
The film, released in 2021, is one of five Lao short films under SX2022 Laos. S-Express Laos is a collection of new short films by young aspiring filmmakers that were selected from LanXang Shorts, a newly established short film festival held in Vientiane. It is also a short film funded by the Lao Filmmaker Fund.
These five films revolve around the theme of “home”, be it physical or a feeling. Besides “Pha Hom”, the other films are “Phuak Khi Phae” (Loser Boy, 2022), “Phiengsouknun Thi Euiy Wao” (Only Happpiness Can Say, 2021), “Louk Keu” (Daughter of the Salt-maker, 2020), and “Mou Tem” (A Friend’s Request, 2021).
“Pha Hom” was nominated for the RWI Asia Pacific Awards to promote Lao short film on the international stage.
