Payengxa Lor is winner of Miss Universe Laos 2022
Ms Payengxa lor, 21, was crowned the Miss Universe Laos 2022 during the final round of the competition held at Landmark Mekong Riverside Hotel.
She received a cash prize of 100 million kip and a crown from Phetpathai Jewellery, and gift vouchers from the sponsors of the pageant.
Ms Payengxa will now represent the country at the regional round of the Miss Universe 2022 to be held at New Orleans in the United States to promote Laos and its culture. She said this will also allow her to follow her dream of empowering women and creating equality in society by giving them access to education.
She also won special awards such as Miss Smart Lady by Naree and Miss Perfect Skin by Renita Beauty Center in the preliminary rounds of the competition.
Ms Phaimany Lathsabanthao was named the first runner-up, and Ms Lattana Munvilay the second runner-up.
Ms Payengxa won the Miss Universe Laos pageant after answering the question “How important is the crown of Miss Universe Laos 2022 and what does it mean to you?”
She replied: “Being Miss Universe Laos is important for me because when I become Miss Universe Laos, I will have the power and the chance to influence people’s thoughts and their behaviour, especially among Hmong girls because I grew up with Hmong girls. And I want to be the one who is a role model for all girls and tell them that if you just believe in yourself, you can do whatever you have in your mind, you can have it in your hands. That’s why I believe in myself and I am here today.”
Ms Payengxa was born in Xieng Khuang province, and is a student of the Lao-American College. She acts as an English teacher online through the website Learning English with Payengxa.
She is also the co-founder of the Hmong Woman Network and volunteers to help society, especially children, orphans, senior citizens and the homeless.
She won the Miss Hmong Vientiane pageant in 2019 and also likes sports. She won a silver medal in Taekwondo at the University Games.
