Athletics federation selects top runners for University Games

The Lao Athletics Federation is preparing talented young athletes to represent Laos at the 20th Asean University Games to be held in Ubon Ratchathani province, Thailand, in July and August. 
Following selection for track and field events on June 2, the chosen runners will train at the Sports Training Centre in Naxaithong district, Vientiane.The selection event was attended by runners from the National University of Laos and various colleges and institutes.
The student athletics team will compete in the men’s and women’s discus events, and men’s and women’s 100 metre, 400 metre, 1,500 metre and 5,000 metre races and other events at the Asean University Games.
The Ministry of Education and Sports is overseeing the teams’ training and is also devising a strategy to further develop Lao sports from 2022 to 2025. The ministry also has its sights on preparing competitors for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia in May next year.
Despite their best efforts, the Lao athletics team returned home without a medal from the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam last month.
