One of the gold medals up for grabs in the Golden Triangle half marathon on Sunday.

Runners get into stride for Golden Triangle half marathon

More than 400 runners from Laos and other countries, including those in the junior and beginner categories, will compete in the Golden Triangle 2nd Half Marathon in Tonpheung district, Bokeo province on Sunday, to mark International Day against Drug Abuse.
The event also marks the 15th anniversary of the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone.
Runners will come from China, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos.
 There will be 8km races in the U-15 and U-45 categories, and a 21km race for beginners. There are 20 prizes up for grabs by the winners, worth more than 488 million kip. 
The event is co-organised by the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Bokeo province, the Lao Athletics Federation, and Bokeo province officials.
The winners in each category will be awarded cups, trophies and gold medals, while those placed second will get silver medals.
Laos’ top female runner, Lodkeo Inthakoumman, and her friends from Vientiane will compete in the event,
Lodkeo is hopeful of success on the back of her gold medal win in the women’s 21km event of the Nakhon Phanom-Khammuan Marathon Season 4, which took place on Sunday across the Lao-Thai border.
