KP Group makes generous donation to Lao football squad
The KP Group on Tuesday donated 100 million kip to the Lao men’s football team after the players returned from the South East Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam.
The money was handed over by a representative of the KP Group, Mr Khemsath Philaphandeth, to the Vice President of the Lao Football Federation, Mr Khamphay Praseuth.
Also present on the occasion were senior Federation officials, Laos coach Mr Michael Weiss and footballers.
The members of the U-23 team who competed at the Games have now rejoined their home clubs for competition in the Lao Pepsi Premier League 1.
Head coach of the Lao U-20 football team, Mr Michael Weiss, will work with the national team and select new players to join the squad in preparation for the qualifiers of the AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023. The qualifiers will take place in Laos from September 10-18.
Last week, the Asian Football Confederation held a draw for the AFC U20 Asian Cup, dividing the 43 participating teams into 10 groups.
The draw placed Laos in Group C alongside Japan, Yemen, Palestine and Guam.
The team that comes top in each group will go through to the final round of the tournament in Uzbekistan in 2023.
The five to six teams placed second will also have an opportunity to compete in the final round.
Mr Weiss will also train the Lao U-23 team to compete at the 32nd edition of the SEA Games in Cambodia in May 2023.
