Lao footballers gear up
for competition at SEA Games
Lao footballers’ hopes of rising up the regional ranks have been boosted following their success in friendly games against Mongolia and Brunei this month.
The games were part of the Lao team’s preparations for the 31st South-East Asian (SEA) Games, which take place in Vietnam in May.
The squad beat Brunei 3-2 in a game played at the National Stadium in Vientiane on Sunday, following their earlier win over Mongolia with a score of 1-0.
The Lao Football Federation is spending 100 million kip to prepare the Lao team for the games in Vietnam.
The team’s head coach, Mr Michael Weiss, will work with the players to further develop their skills and fitness levels before they head for Vietnam.
The Lao squad have other recent experience of international competition after taking part in the AFF Under-23 Championship in Cambodia last month.
They also competed at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020, which took place in Singapore in December.
The team is hopeful of being joined by Billy Ketkeophomphone, who is currently playing for a European club.
