Soukan eyeing another kickboxing medal at SEA Games

Fans will be eagerly following the progress of Laos’ top kickboxer Soukan Taypanyavong when he competes in the men’s 60kg weight category at the 31st South-East Asia (SEA) Games to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, in May.
Soukan’s hopes are high after winning a gold medal at the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines back in 2019 but the pressure will be on him to repeat his success a second time around.
The Elite Sports Department of the Ministry of Education and Sports is sending seven male kickboxers in the men’s 51, 54, 60, 57, 63, 67 and 71kg weight categories to the games, and one woman competing in the 52kg weight division.
This will be the second time that a Lao kickboxing team is competing in the SEA Games.
The sports department is supporting the team’s training at the Huayhong boxing stadium, where the competitors are being coached by two trainers before they head to Vietnam.
Other martial artists are also training in the hope of medal success at the games.
The Lao kickboxing team came home with one gold and three bronze medals from the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines, and hopes are high that they can better their performance this time around.
